Questions about Li-Ion technology in general:

Are Li-Ion batteries more dangerous than others?
Li-Ion batteries are no more dangerous than other batteries if:

- high quality cells are used
- the battery pack is mechanically and electronically
   well designed,
- the cells are correctly protected against overheating and
   overload (see Electronic Cell
   Protection).

Bosch Li-Ion cells and batteries are very thoroughly tested and all 3 levels of protection are fulfilled. Therefore, in no case are Bosch Li-Ion batteries more dangerous than conventional batteries.

Do Bosch Li-Ion chargers react to extreme temperatures of the battery? Are there risks of overheating, explosion...?
Bosch Li-Ion chargers detect the temperature of the battery and adapt the charging current accordingly to ensure an optimum lifetime of the battery. In this way, any risk of overheating or explosion is avoided.
See specifications below for each charger.

Battery temperature below 0°C and above 45°C
10.8 Volt A flashing red light indicates that the battery’s temperature is not within the optimum temperature range
of 0°C to 45°C for rapid charging and the charging is interrupted. As soon as the battery’s temperature has reached its optimum charging temperature, the battery charger automatically switches to rapid charging.
36 Volt The 36V charger has the same functionality as the 10.8V charger. Additionally, the 36V charger has a battery cooling system. When the battery temperature is above 45°C, a fan automatically cools down the battery to the optimum charging temperature.

Environment:

Is Li-Ion technology more environmentally friendly than other technologies?
As with other battery systems, as long as the battery is not damaged it does not represent any danger to the environment. The environmental impact is more dependent on the user’s behaviour. In the EU, users are legally bound to bring old battery packs back to the dealer.

How is recycling organised? Do I need to pay something additional for that?
Environmentally friendly power tools manufacturers have implemented specific recycling services. When brought back to power tools dealers, old power tools, battery chargers and battery packs are recovered and recycled for free.
